Dr. Mehmet Oz, host of ” The Dr. Oz Show,” famous physician and advocate for healthy aging stopped by Hampton Roads just long enough to play to a packed house – and break a few hearts.  Good news – Oz, a world renowned heart surgeon, can definitely fix it.

Different Strokes For Women – May 19, Newport News

Different Strokes for Women is designed as a forum for women to interact with health care providers to discover the breaking news on how to screen for, prevent and treat stroke and other related diseases.  It continues in the tradition of Spirit of Women programming developed for the past six years, aimed at empowering women to take charge of their health and act!  Different Strokes for Women is focused on the latest advances in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of stroke, and especially how the disease may manifest itself differently in women and how there may be disparities in the treatment and outcome of the disease in women.

Different Strokes for Women will also include important free health screenings for women, as well as complementary lectures, activities and/or exhibits that entertain, inspire and foster friendship and communication among women.

Based on participant feedback, a panel format for the medical lecture will once again be used, discussing the various dimensions described above, and ensuring the holistic approach of Bon Secours – providing everyone with exceptional, personalized care.

In this lecture we’ll be focusing on risk factors for stroke, especially those that are unique to women.
The latter includes loss of estrogen, migraine headache sufferers, pregnancy, and use of birth control.
We’ll also discuss how to prevent strokes from happening altogether.

A New Virginia Beach Support Group for Bon Secours Surgical Weight Loss Patients

Bon Secours Surgical Weight Loss Center invites  patients to the first ever monthly Support Group meeting in Virginia Beach.

The Virginia Beach-Norfolk Support Group, scheduled for 6-7:30pm, April 8, is the first of a recurring, monthly meeting that will take place at the same time, and in the same place (Community Education Room off the first floor lobby at Healthy Way), each and every month.

The Virginia Beach-Norfolk  Support Group will be identical to the meetings held each month at Harbour View in Suffolk.

Those meetings also take place on the second Thursday of each month. Here is more information about the April 8 events:
