Dr. Oz Visits Hampton Roads

Dr. Mehmet Oz, host of ” The Dr. Oz Show,” famous physician and advocate for healthy aging stopped by Hampton Roads just long enough to play to a packed house – and break a few hearts.  Good news – Oz, a world renowned heart surgeon, can definitely fix it.

As the sponsors of the event, Bon Secours Health System was able to conduct a live twitter feed as well as capture these great pictures. Enjoy!

Physician Seminars: Day of Dance, Peninsula

The area’s top doctors share the secrets of good health, new technologies,  and most effective treatments  at Day of Dance, Peninsula, celebrated 10am-2pm, Saturday, February 27 on the campus of Thomas Nelson Community College.

Who will be there? A cardiac surgeon, a pain management specialist, a hernia specialist, a urologist, cardiologists, and the Peninsula’s foremost orthopaedic and spine specialists. These top physicians will share their knowledge in seminars and presentations.

Dance & Fun: Day of Dance, Peninsula

Day of Dance for Heart Health at Thomas Nelson Community College is about dance. And heart health. And dance. And a helicopter and the Chik-fil-A® cow!

Be prepared to enjoy serious health information from top Bon Secours-aligned doctors, and, a healthy measure of dance and light-hearted fun. Free Red Boas are given to the first 500 that attend.

It all comes together in the Closing Ceremony with the Red Boa Dance!, special performance by a silk aerialist, and drawings for door prizes.

February is American Heart Month

Since 1963, by Presidential proclamation, February is celebrated as American Heart Month. (Circle February 11 & 27 on your calendar for important Bon Secours Heart Health events. Information follows.)

Between then and now, as heart disease and stroke have become better understood, American Heart Month has taken a different shape. Today, this month celebrates advances in prevention and in care, urging us all to make heart healthy choices.

Heart Health on the Calendar

A glance at the Bon Secours Calendar of Events shows a range of heart health events, support groups and classes.

February 2010 introduces a new, free Nutrition for a Healthy Heart class that will be offered twice each month.

February 11, at Bon Secours Health Center at Virginia Beach, Get Heart Smart offers free health screens for glucose, Body Mass Index and blood pressure, followed by a panel Q & A session with Bon Secours heart specialists. Space is limited – don’t delay in registering.

February 27, at Thomas Nelson Community College and at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott, Bon Secours hosts Day of Dance for Heart Health events. Free health screenings, dance performance, dance lessons, heart healthy cooking demonstrations await you.
